THE CHALLENGE was to create a rig that allowed for easy animation without having to worry about basic things like BB-8’s rotation and mannerisms. THE SOLUTION was creating a series of expressions that tie BB-8’s movement along the X and Y axis to the rotation of his ball. I also created sliders for all of BB-8’s wobbles and shakes which allows him to be extremely customizable and easy to animate. THE RESULT was a rig that made animation a breeze. I was able to create dynamic scenes in minutes, rather than hours.
